In regards to Metallica, "Nothing Else Matters" is more of a ballad so it makes sense. It's transcended the rock genre like "Hotel California", "Wonderwall", "Livin' on a Prayer", "Stairway to Heaven", "Hey Jude". "Sweet Child o' Mine" isn't just a hit single anymore from the 80s - parents use it as a lullaby to their kids, brides/grooms use it as their wedding songs, boyfriends/girlfriends sing it at karaoke as an expression of love to their significant other. "Patience" is a great acoustic ballad that anyone can play. "November Rain" as a song is good, but the music video is what elevates it. I mean, "Welcome to the Jungle" is a standard for hard rock while "Paradise City" is a stadium anthem. Plus, the songs are just really good songs that are already classic rock staples. And a lot of it unsurprisingly comes from South America. If you look at Spotify, GnR songs are streamed in the hundreds of millions. I think its partly because of this whole resurgence that they've had with the semi-reunion that reinvigorated older fans' interest as well as attracting a lot of newer fans from younger generations (like me).
